May; Cisterns

I did not get any anwers on last month word, so at this time I wil not talk about it I well save it for another time. I was asked to put the word raptor on by request do to the topic had came up a lot.

This month word is "Cisterns", you will also find it spelled "Cistern".  Both words mean the same, yet I am looking for the word where it is talking about more than one.

You will find the word used once as "cisterns" yet it is used twice in the same verse. The word "cistern" you will find it used four times.  Tell what it means and how can it be used to tell how people are today?  I would like for use to look at this word in how it applies to a group.  Yet it is okay to talk about it where we are talking about one!

Jeremiah 2:13 (NIV) says, "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.

The cistern in the Hebrew refers to "pit or well."  Jeremiah 2  tells us how the people turned away from God and turned to idol worship.  Jeremiah tells the people that they forsake the God who gives them life or living water and they have dug or made their own wells to supply their living water with their false idols.  The problem is that the man-made cisterns cannot supply the living water because only God himself can do that through Jesus Christ.  Their cisterns are broken because the water they seek, their cisterns cannot hold.

For us today, we have so many idols that we worship today.  Many idols that we don't even recognize and we think those things will give us joy, happiness, and even eternal life but like in Jeremiah's day, we will see only God himself is succificent and bring us eternal life, true joy, and fill the emptiness in our hearts.

This is awesome picture of the condition of our hearts!  The cistern can be a picture of our own hearts.  God wants to fill our cistern (hearts) with Jesus Christ (living water) but instead we turn to our idols today to fill that because our hearts are sinful, and full of evil and only Jesus Christ can change our hearts.  Instead we try to fill it will pride, selfishness, money, sports, a husband, wife, kids, power, and other idolatries but only Christ is the answer.
